Where the stories come from
74 outlets, 154 feeds, one rule: every story links back to the report it came from.
How we use what outlets publish
We read the public RSS feeds that outlets offer for exactly this purpose. For each item we keep the headline, the link, and the short excerpt the outlet provides. Our summaries are written separately, in our own words, from that headline and excerpt only. We do not copy articles, get around paywalls, or hide where a story came from. Paywalled outlets stay paywalled, and you will need your own subscription to read them in full.
How we rate outlets
Each outlet gets one rating, from Left to Right, for the outlet as a whole, never for a single article. Ratings are our editorial judgment, informed by publicly available media-bias research such as AllSides and Ad Fontes. Reasonable people disagree on several of these, and one rating cannot capture an outlet that runs both news and opinion. We use ratings for one job: to make sure your brief includes more than one vantage point.
If you think an outlet is rated wrong, tell us. We would rather be corrected than quietly wrong.
